Lincoln Public Schools Families,
We will continue sending you a monthly update on the last Friday of every month with important information and reminders.
We are currently seeing an increased number of flu cases in our community. Here are some important reminders to help you and your family guard against illness during the flu season.
Flu symptoms include:
Most flu symptoms gradually improve over three to five days, but it’s not uncommon to feel run down for a week or more. It is strongly recommended that anyone with a fever over 100 degrees stay home until they are fever-free for at least a minimum of 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication. Staying home is the best way to prevent the spread of the flu. We recommend that students and staff seek the advice of their medical provider in regards to use of antiviral medication and when to safely return to school.
It is not too late to get a flu shot, as this remains the way to prevent getting the flu virus. Please contact your healthcare provider.
In November, the Lincoln Board of Education voted to revise the student calendar to provide staff with two more plan days this school year. There will be no classes for students on Dec. 9, 2022, and Feb. 21, 2023. You can find the updated student calendar on our website here: https://home.lps.org/calendars.
What does this mean for your student:
Thank you for allowing our staff the ability to recoup valuable plan time that is missed while they are covering classes. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
As we look ahead to winter extracurriculars, we continue to encourage LPS elementary and middle school students and families to support our high school student-participants in basketball, wrestling, bowling, swimming and diving, cheer, dance and band. As we work to keep our student-participants, coaches and spectators safe at our contests, we are advising the following:
Lincoln Public Schools Athletics Department, in partnership with Hudl, is excited to share select athletic contests played at LPS facilities this winter will be streamed online.
If you can attend our games in-person, we highly encourage you to do so in order to cheer on our student-athletes. We also want to give our fans who can’t physically attend contests the ability to tune in and support LPS athletics. With the livestream of select events, working parents, faraway family members, alumni, and anyone else who wants to watch can continue to support our athletes.
Pay-per-view passes can be purchased on a single-game or monthly basis for each school’s select home events. A single-game pass will be $8, a monthly pass per school will be $15, and allows the subscriber access to all home events that are streamed for their chosen school. These prices are intended to be similar to the cost of attending the game. The monthly subscription will offer the greatest value to those intending to watch a school’s home events throughout the season.
You can access the livestream page using https://team1sports.com and search for the school of your choice. Schedules and stream links for specific schools can also be found below.

Just a reminder you can purchase game passes and ticket books online or in-person at any of the seven high schools or the Steve Joel District Leadership Center (district office at 5905 O Street). Passes and ticket books purchased online must be picked up at the school with receipt prior to attending any LPS event. Individual event tickets may be purchased online at GoFan and presented on your mobile device at the event. Service fees will apply. Individual event tickets will also be available at the gate on a cash-only basis.
All LPS households should have a login to ParentVUE in order to access important school information about their child. This includes current attendance, grading and reports cards each quarter. Please contact your student’s school office for information on setting up your account or for questions on how to use this important portal. Check out our website for more information.
Families can easily report a child’s full day absence without having to call the school by using ParentVUE. Note: Partial day absences still require a call to the office to specify what time the student will be gone.
Just follow these easy steps on your computer or through the app on your phone:
Families are invited to participate in the Hour of Code and Tech Fair on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9am-noon at Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center. Parents of K-12 students receiving special education services are invited to the quarterly Special Education Parents Information Network meeting on December 8, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Steve Joel District Leadership Center at 5905 O Street (formerly known as the District Office) in the Boardroom. Please RSVP by December 1, 2022, if you plan to attend by contacting Payton Eickhoff (email at peickhof@lps.org, or call 402-436-1905).
The agenda for this meeting includes:
6:00-6:30: enjoy cookies, water and juice while networking with other parents and the Special Education Leadership staff members. (This is optional.)
6:30-7:30: a Parent Training and Information (PTI) Nebraska representative will attend to discuss what support they provide to families. In addition, they will discuss Developmental Disability (DD) services, Medicaid, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Also, during this time, we will discuss tips for problem-solving with your student’s IEP team. We will end the night with time for parents to ask questions.
Please note that a Zoom recording of the session will be provided on the LPS website the following day along with supporting materials.
The purpose of the Special Education Parent Information Networking meetings is to share information with LPS parents/guardians about the special education services offered within the district, as well as community supports available to students with disabilities. Meetings are held quarterly and include a prepared interactive presentation that allows parents/guardians to ask questions and get clarification. Topics are chosen ahead of time and communicated with families.
Special Education Parent Information Networking meetings are also a time for parents/guardians of students with disabilities to connect with other parents/guardians from around the district. The first 30 minutes prior to the presentation is reserved for family conversations and connections. Special Education Leadership Team Members are present to help facilitate conversation and help make introductions. Parents are encouraged to ask other parents questions and collaborate with one another.
If parents would like to share ideas or provide feedback with the special education department, they should email one of the special education leadership members to set up a meeting. Specific student questions may not be able to be addressed during these meetings, as oftentimes those are IEP team decisions. In these situations you should contact the special education coordinator in your student’s building.
